Orbit Tracker Earth is an animated, mathematical distance and speed reference for the Earths orbit. It has been developed for iPad only.

View in miles or kilometers

Toggle between Northern and Southern Hemispheres in Settings.

How fast is the Earths orbit?

What does 1,100 miles per minute look like?

What does 67,000 mph look like? 107,000 km/hr?

What do 315 billion milliseconds look like?

Use Date Tracker: Start Date and End Date to calculate the orbit distance between two dates, up to 60 years ago.

Find the orbit distance from your birth date to the current date.

Find the orbit distance to the Spring Equinox or the next eclipse.

The Play Button is a timed 15 second sequence. View open layout possibilities, polar rotation value at the equator and lunar orbit values.

More Date Tracker/UI Info: ********

The Current Date and Day # is located above the Sun.

The Orbit Distance Value (ODV) is located beneath the Sun. It is the Earths orbit distance from Jan 1 to the Current Date.

The Start Date and End Date also appear beneath the chosen months on the Ring of Months (ROM).

The Distance value is the orbit distance between two calendar dates, up to 60 years ago.

The Event Countdown is a decreasing distance value from the Current Date to the End Date.

To go forward in time, select the End Date first and then the Start Date.

To go backwards in time, select the Start Date first and the the End Date.

There are 12 spheres located around the dial. Only the current month sphere will rotate during the year to indicate general orbit status.

The Current Month Sphere rotates at an accelerated rate to indicate general orbit status at the current month and date.
The fast-forward polar rotation highlights the motion of the Earth as it moves you away from the horizon, causing the Sun to appear to set. The Earths Polar Rotation is once every 24 hrs.

There are three (3) imaginary inner solar orbits.

Date Tracker Distance Notes: ********
The Date Tracker Distance value represents the total # of miles or km traveled from the:
Start Date at 00h:00m:01 secs am until
End Date at 23h:59m:59 secs pm (midnight)

Example : For the same day
Start Date: Jan 1
End Date: Jan 1
Distance: 1,600,159 mi (or 2,575,206 km)

Distance between:
00h:00m:01secs am Jan 1 and 23h:59m:59secs pm Jan 1
In a span of 24 hrs the Earths travels approx. 1,600,159 miles in orbit.

For consecutive days: Example
Start Date: Jan 1
End Date: Jan 2
Distance: 3,200,318 mi or 5,150,412 km

Distance between:
00h:00m:01 secs am on Jan 1 and
23h:59m:59 secs pm on Jan 2
In a span of 48 hrs the Earths orbit distance is approx.
3,200,318 mi or 5,150,412 km.

Earth Orbit Notes: *******
The Earths orbit is nearly circular. It is 98-99% circle and 1-2% ellipse, based on its apoapsis and periapsis distances from the Sun.

The Earths orbit is about 584M miles or 940M km in distance over 365 days. The Earths orbit is approximately 585.6M miles or 942.5M km over 366 days.

The Earths orbit speed is approximately 66,628 mph and 1,100 miles per minute.

The Earths circumference at the Equator is approximately 24,900 miles.

The Moons orbit is about 1.5 million miles in distance and 27.3 days in duration (sidereal orbit).

The Moon is about 240,000 miles away from the Earth

All values used to calculate orbit distance and speed are within the public domain. All values are approximations.

The Orbit Tracker Earth simulation is not to scale and not a replica of the Solar System or Celestial Spheres.
Orbit Tracker Earth does not function as a time-telling instrument.
